PHILLIP
STRAUSS

Phillip Strauss has been creating since the early 2000s when he picked up ceramics as a hobby in high school. On and off throughout the years he has kept up the craft until he finally had an opportunity to start creating consistently in 2015.

As an artist and educator, Strauss believes that the creative process is a journey of exploration, where technical skill and personal expression come together. His goal is to create an environment where students feel empowered to experiment, take risks, and find their own artistic voice. He emphasizes the importance of mastering foundational techniques in ceramics—such as hand-building, wheel-throwing, and glazing—while framing these skills as tools for personal expression and creative problem-solving. Strauss encourages students to embrace the messiness of the process, learn from both successes and challenges, and develop the confidence to take creative risks.
