Alex Caton and The Piney Woods Gals shine their light on the women of Old-Time American music. Typically less well-known in the genre, women have been ballad singers, musicians, teachers, recording artists, and composers. Through stories and songs, we’ll learn about some of these influential women and our performers' experiences as women playing old-time music in Virginia.

You will also meet Paige Wright, apprenticing with Alex under the auspices of The Arts Center’s Music Mentorship Program.
