The Arts Center In Orange

 

The Arts Center in Orange is a nonprofit community arts center that strives to improve the quality of life in our community by promoting the participation in and appreciation for fine contemporary arts; providing a venue for artists and artisans to work, teach, exhibit and sell work; and offering education programs for the community to learn creative skills.

We are seeking an Executive Director who has the passion and vision to take us to the next stage of our growth.

The Executive Director is responsible for the everyday operations of the Arts Center, represents the Arts Center in our community, and serves as a public advocate for the arts to build community support.  Key duties also include new program development, special event and exhibit planning, fundraising and grant writing, marketing and media relations, and overseeing ongoing renovations to and maintenance of an historic building. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and supervises the staff and volunteers.

Desired qualifications:  An appreciation and understanding of the arts and the role of a community arts center.  Leadership experience in a nonprofit organization.  Experience in fundraising, marketing, and developing community partnerships.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervision of the part time staff and volunteers who help with the day to day operations.
  2. Planning and execution of funding for the Center from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, state and local governments , private and public foundations and individuals, including fundraising events, other special events, and donor cultivation.
  3. Preparation and supervision of the annual budget for The Center. Approve billing and work with bookkeeper.
  4. Coordination and support of The Arts Center Board
  5. Plan and execute exhibits in The Morin Gallery, maintaining artistic standards while encouraging community involvement.
  6. Oversee and support the Community Outreach Program
  7. Oversee the Gift Shop
  8. Creation of the Quarterly newsletter, as well as oversee all electronic media and press relations.

Skills Required:

  1. Proven people and supervisory skills
  2. Proven experience in grant writing and fundraising for nonprofits. A background in art and art history as well as knowledge of various media.
  3. Knowledge of desktop publishing and other graphic skills including Adobe Pagemaker, Indesign, and Photoshop
  1. Accounting and budgeting knowledge
